Born on Third Base
I found Born on Third Base to be an enjoyable read. I found his outlook on society and wealth very intriguing. It opened up my eyes to how contradicting wealth can be—most of us have a disconnection from wealthy people, but we still strive/want to be like them. I agree with Collins that income inequality is a major problem in American society and in order to make a change we need to get people from the top 1% to make a difference. Without the help of the wealthy stepping up, the income inequality will only increase with the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer.
Overall, in the parts of the book that I read, I found that Collins offered a great number of important points about inequality and the ways he plans to solve the problem. It is clear that he spent a ton of time researching and dedicating his life to this issue. Not many people would give up their inheritance, yet he did without a second thought. Aside from that, I liked the simplicity of his writing— he broke his concepts down clearly with subsections making is easier to follow along. When I have time I definitely want to go back and finish this book.
