Growing a Farmer: Post 2
Overall, I really enjoyed the story that Timmermeister told.
I appreciate that he told the raw and honest truth of the troubles he
encountered and how he overcame them. He also did a great job explaining the
processes he went through and the steps he took to make the farm succeed. His
way of describing the various topics helped me visualize and learn about all
the aspects of the farm. Although I enjoyed how descriptive he was, at times I
found it a little mundane and too in-depth. There were some parts I felt like
he could have condensed. All in all, I admire him for pushing through all the
hardships and not letting failure defeat him. It takes a lot of courage to
leave the city and pursue a life in farming.
The chapter I liked reading most was The Table. I love how
he ends the book by describing how his farm is 20 years later. To me it just
emphasizes the idea that hard work pays off. Also, I love how he spoke about
his dinner table that was made of Douglas fir wood that once had rough edges.
In a way, I feel like that table symbolizes his journey to his farm life. As he
became more experienced, the top of the table got less rough because of all the
meals and memories he made. Timmermeister came a long way since purchasing the
land and it’s amazing to see all the meals he can make with fresh ingredients
and the events he can now hold.
